Zverev to Face Musetti in Olympic Quarterfinal

German Star Extends Unbeaten Run in Tokyo

Italian Hopes Alive Amidst Sinner Absence

World No. 5 Alexander Zverev will face off against rising Italian star Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tennis tournament. The match will be played on Court Suzanne Lenglen on August 1 at 12:35 UTC.

Zverev, the 2020 US Open finalist, has been in impressive form in Tokyo, winning all three of his matches in straight sets. He extended his unbeaten run at the Olympics to six matches, dating back to his gold medal performance at Rio 2016.

Musetti, ranked No. 58 in the world, has emerged as a surprise package in the tournament. He has upset higher-ranked opponents, including No. 12 seed Hubert Hurkacz, to reach his maiden Olympic quarterfinal.

The Italian's victory over Hurkacz kept alive Italy's hopes of an Olympic tennis medal in the absence of top-ranked Jannik Sinner, who withdrew from the tournament due to an injury.

Zverev will be the favorite heading into the match, but Musetti has shown that he is not to be underestimated. The young Italian possesses a powerful forehand and an aggressive style of play that can trouble even the top players.

The winner of the Zverev-Musetti clash will advance to the semifinals, where they will face either No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic or No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev.
