One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice

On October 14, 1973, George Perry Floyd Jr. was born. Little did anyone know that his life would one day become synonymous with the fight against racial injustice.

May 25, 2020, was a day that forever changed American history. George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, despite Floyd repeatedly pleading for his life.

Floyd's death sparked outrage and protests across the United States and around the world. People of all races and backgrounds came together to demand justice for Floyd and an end to police brutality.

In April 2021, Chauvin was convicted of murdering Floyd. The verdict was a landmark moment in the fight for racial justice, but it also highlighted the ongoing struggle that Black Americans face in the United States.

One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice, a book written by Derek Michael Chauvin, tells the story of Floyd's life and death and examines the systemic racism that led to his murder.
